Household furniture inflation rises

Inflation for furniture continued its rollercoaster pattern in July, with the rate jumping by almost a third.

The CPI rate jumped from 1% to 1.3%, according to ONS data, after reaching 1.8% in May.

The increase is the eighth consecutive month of price rises after a low period of deflation.

A year ago the rate was -2.4%.

Garden furniture saw deflation of 2.2% more than reversed, as inflation reached 5.5%.

In contrast, lighting saw deflation increase: from 2.4% to 3.6%, marking a year of constant deflation.
