Ikea opens high street food outlet

Ike has opened high street food outlet, and it offers far more than the chain’s famed meatballs.

The chain has opened the 75-seater venue next to its Hammersmith, London store. The former Wasabi restaurant is its first stand-alone food outlet on a UK high street and has the look of a MacDonalds, complete with ordering screens.

The menu includes: eight meatballs served with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce & lingonberry jam for £5.50; eight plant balls served with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce & lingonberry jam for £4.95; children’s pasta and tomato sauce, including a soft drink and a piece of fruit for 95p; penne with a tomato andbasil sauce for £2.95; battered haddock with chips and peas for £6.95; salmon with cous cous and yogurt for £6.95; small cooked breakfast of six pieces for £2.75 and regular cooked breakfast of nine pieces for £3.75.

‘We know how much our customers love the Ikea restaurant and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant,’ says Matthew Gould, Ikea London City market manager. ‘Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish “fika” break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.’
