Cushions will now form part of the basket of products used to measure inflation in the UK, while wallpaper prices will be monitored at more stores.
ONS has added 23 items and removed 14 to more accurately reflect life in 2025.
It says cushions will improve coverage of lounge furnishings and add to bedding, towels and curtains, which are already in the household textiles section.
Wallpaper remains in the basket but the number of locations at which prices are sampled will be increased.
From the February inflation figures, which will be published on 26 March, the furniture and furnishings basket will be made up of dining furniture, eg tables and chairs, bedroom furniture, eg wardrobe, mattress and chest of drawers; living room furniture, armchair, sofa, bookcase and table lamp; kitchen furniture, kitchen units; office furniture, home office desk; outdoor furniture, patio set and baby/children’s furniture, high chairs.
Household textiles will be made up of cushions, curtains, duvets, sheet, towels, duvet cover and fabric roller blind.
Carpets and other floorcoverings will be made up of rugs, LVT and selected carpets.
