Furniture inflation leapt in January, while flooring saw another increase.
Consumer Price Index data from the Office for National Statistics shows that household furniture prices were 14.1% higher in January than in 2021. This is an increase from 12.5% in December.
Carpets and other floorcoverings saw prices climb from 7.8% to 8.1%.
All nine of the ONS’ furniture, furnishings and carpets indexes, which also include lighting and outdoor furniture, saw an increase. Of these lighting saw the lowest increase of 5.7%, but this was up on December’s 4.1%.
The inflation rate for household textiles was flat at 3.3%, despite furnishing fabrics and curtains seeing a jump from 0.9% to 4%.
The overall Consumer Price Index rose from 5.4% to 5.5%, while the Retail Price Index rose from 7.5% to 7.8%.
