Inflation slows for furniture as outdoor sees deflation return

Furniture price inflation slowed last month, dropping below 1% for the third time in 2025.

The rate for household furniture dropped from 1.3% to 0.9%, continuing the pattern of a rise immediately followed by a fall which has characterised pricing since February.

ONS said the lower rate of price increases was led by lounge furniture.

The rate was 1% a year ago.

Garden furniture continued its rollercoaster ride of prices, with inflation of 5.5% in July becoming deflation of 7.1% in August.

In the past year there has been deflation in 11 of the 13 months, with an average of 12.4%.

Lighting saw its unbroken run of deflation continue, although 1.5% was the second lowest rate in the past year, falling from 3.6%.
