John Lewis and Waitrose parent John Lewis Partnership could cut up to almost 15% of its employees as part of its latest plan to turnaround the business.
A loss of 11,000 of the group’s 76,000 workforce is expected to fall heaviest of the John Lewis department store and head office staff.
The cuts are expected to be take years, and are likely to see staff not replaced rather than compulsory redundancies. Staff costs at the group account of more than 10% of its costs.
The group has also moved to cut redundancy costs by limiting payments to one week of salary per year served, rather than two weeks.
