John Lewis ‘eyes Waitrose shop in shop’ rollout

John Lewis is to open mini-branches in hundreds of Waitrose stores as it changes its stores mix.

Dame Sharon White, John Lewis Partnership chairman wants the majority of the supermarket chain’s 331 stores to have a John Lewis shop-in-shop in the next 12 to 18 months, according to The Times.

Its fifth such unit was opened last month.

White is also planning a smaller department store format, according to the report. The chain has already closed eight department stores and is likely to announce the closure of eight more as it anticipates two-thirds of sales moving online.
