Peter Keen, Hypnos chairman has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by The Furniture Makers’ Company.
The award was in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the British bed and furniture industry. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a leader who has devoted their life to the furtherment of the furnishing industry and left an indelible mark on the trade.
He was presented with it by the Lord Mayor, Alastair King and TFMC master Debbie Johnson (pictured).
‘I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award from The Furniture Makers’ Company. I’ve had the privilege of working with so many wonderful people in an industry I love. I’m proud of the legacy we’ve built at Hypnos and know the future is in safe hands,’ says Keen.
The much-loved Hypnos chairman has been a leading figure in the industry for more than 50 years. Inheriting the family business in his early thirties, his entrepreneurial vision and passion for sleep products helped transform Hypnos into a £50m brand, known worldwide for quality, innovation and sustainability.
Instrumental in forging strong relationships with royal households and the hospitality sector, he also served tirelessly on industry boards including Contract Interiors UK, the National Bed Federation (president), and the British Furniture Association (chairman), as well as being a master of The Furniture Makers’ Company. His leadership has shaped key initiatives, from establishing the annual Bed Show to championing mattress recycling and industry standards.
His impact goes far beyond the boardroom. A long-standing advocate for charitable causes and conservation in Buckinghamshire, he has dedicated time and energy to preserving the area’s furniture-making heritage and natural beauty.
‘Peter’s legacy within the furnishing world is profound. His charisma and enduring commitment to excellence have left an unmistakable mark. Beyond business success, Peter’s investment in people, from suppliers to apprentices, has helped define Hypnos’s family-oriented culture,’ says Johnson.
