South-east of England retailer Lukehurst has added more retail space to its Sittingbourne, Kent store with the rapid addition of a mezzanine floor.
The added 4,000sqft of space had been planned for 2020 but was postponed by the pandemic and then scheduled for late 2021. When the Government’s lockdown roadmap in late February meant non-essential retail could not re-open until 12 April, the decision was made to press ahead with the expansion.
‘We took the major decision to go ahead with the project immediately whilst we were not allowed to open. This meant we wouldn’t lose more trade later in the year by having to close again to carry out the work. Although the timescale was tight, worked progressed at an amazing rate. All the contractors have been really professional in helping us turn this project around so quickly and we are delighted with the result. We’ve had a fantastic first couple of days since opening again and if sales are anything to go by, we are confident that the pent-up demand for quality furniture is there across the UK. We have already had so many wonderful comments about this exciting new retail area that we have created, and we look forward to continuing to welcome existing and new clients into store,’ says Kathryn Lukehurst, Lukehurst director.
