Manufacturers expect recovery in orders and output

UK furniture manufacturers expect an upturn in orders in the coming months.

The forecast comes after orders dropped at many companies in the previous months.

The latest BFM Trade and Prices Trends survey found that a balance of 13% expect a rise in orders and production volumes between April and October.

This compares with 69% reporting a drop in output and 81% a fall in orders compared to October 2023.

‘The latest survey shows on balance 53% reported a deterioration in the overall trade in April compared to October, with 63% saying the general business situation had worsened over the past six months. The results point to a difficult period for the sector in late 2023 and early 2024, however, it’s important to note that members are anticipating an uptick in output volume and order intake over the coming months,’ says Phil Spademan, BFM md.
