Naturalmat recognised with King’s Award

Naturalmat has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development.

The organic beds and mattresses pioneer received the award in recognition of more than 25 years of sustainable manufacturing. Founded in 1999, the Devon-based brand started championing sustainability within the interiors industry long before it was fashionable. Naturalmat began its mission at a time when most mattresses were made using polyurethane foam and sprayed with fire retardant chemicals.

‘Sustainability has been at the heart of Naturalmat since day one: it isn’t something we created as an add-on, it is fundamental to who we are as a business. We’re absolutely delighted that our efforts over the last 27 years have been recognised with a King’s Award, and we’re excited to continue leading the way in our industry,’ says Mark Tremlett, Naturalmat founder.

In 2022, the company launched its Sustainability Strategy, built around five pillars spanning closed loop manufacturing, sustainable sourcing, community investment, climate action and tackling bed poverty. A year later, it became the UK’s first B Corp certified bed and mattress company.

Last year, the brand reduced its emissions by 51% per million pounds of turnover, and by 6% overall.
