Non-food sales see annual dip

The UK saw a rise in retail sales in 2024, but non-food sales fell.

Retailers enjoyed a 0.4% increase in sales in the final quarter of the year.

Sales in December rose by 3.2%, compared with the 1.9% rise a year earlier, but this was largely because of the timing of Black Friday, which saw sales recorded in December rather than November. Non-food sales climbed by 4.4%, but this was driven by online sales.

Food sales rose by 3.3% in 2024, with non-food sales 1.5% lower. This saw an overall rise of 0.7%, according to BRC/KPMG/IGD data.
