Retailer’s offcuts donations leave recipients ‘in tears’

A flooring retailer who has been donating offcuts to people who have no flooring in the run-up to Christmas says the recipients have been in tears.

Sean Przesor, owner of East Kilbride retailer Step-by-Step Flooring (pictured) has donated more than 80 sections of carpet left over from orders during the year rather than sell them.

‘A lot of people don’t have anything. We’ve got a lot of roll ends. They are brand new so we wanted to give them away to people and charities that needed it. This is the first time we’ve done it, we’ve only been in business for two years. We see a lot of people living on floor boards and its heart-breaking.

‘People are leaving with a smile on their face or crying because they couldn’t afford to get it done. It’s nice to give back to the community.

‘We take flooring for granted but I’ve been amazed by the amount of people coming in who don’t have any. Unfortunately, we are coming to the end now with how much we can help – we’ve almost run out of carpet to give away.

‘For this to carry on we need people to use the business. The people that buy from us are the ones giving back to those that have nothing. That’s how it works and we certainly hope it’s something we can continue doing in years to come.’
