SCP is to move its showroom and headquarters from its Shoreditch, London home of the past four decades to Clerkenwell.
The retailer and manufacturer says the move ‘is arguably the most significant move in the history of the company.’
‘I’ve enjoyed being part of a creative scene of artists and designers who came to Shoreditch in the 1980s and helped transform it from a post-industrial landscape to the modern mixed-use creative district it has become. I now look forward to pioneering something new in one of the most beautiful areas of London, Clerkenwell,’ says Sheridan Coakley, SCP founder.
The showroom (pictured) will be in a five-floor townhouse on Clerkenwell Green. The pedestrianised square is a five-minute walk from Farringdon Station.
SCP says it wants to ‘bring a strong multi-brand design retail aspect to Clerkenwell, and to continue to serve SCP’s loyal local customer base.’
Clerkenwell Green will feature retail on the ground floor, a dedicated lighting department on the lower ground and showroom spaces on the floors above.
It was designed by Nice Projects. ‘We wanted to create a showroom that inspired visitors and invited them to spend time exploring. The design is fresh and modern, while keeping the building’s townhouse character, and that of the local neighbourhood. Each floor will have its own personality, while the dedicated exhibition space on the top floor will enable for unique immersive brand experiences,’ says Sacha Leong, Nice Projects co-founder.
An external courtyard, which will be used to showcase outdoor products, will connect SCP’s offices in a separate building at the rear of the site. It will also host a full materials and samples library.
‘The move to Clerkenwell reflects the health of SCP’s professional divisions, and is intended to support SCP’s contract, residential and wholesale departments, allowing them to connect with a whole new audience. SCP established itself as a true London design institution in Shoreditch, with a particular approach to working with designers, showcasing new ideas, and collaborating with local partners. SCP aims to do exactly the same in Clerkenwell,’ says SCP.
An opening date has yet to be confirmed.
