Manchester furniture and flooring retailer Stocktons has called time on its city centre store, with a closing down sale beginning tomorrow (Friday).
The site of the Great Ancoats Street store is part of a major regeneration project, although councillors recently rejected the centrepiece of the project.
‘My father started the business back in 1953 and it has been a privilege for the Stockton family to serve the people of Manchester over three generations. Now, I’m determined to mark the end of an era, says Breck Stockton, Stocktons md.
‘We’ve really enjoyed serving the people in the area over the past 73 years and we will bow out by giving customers one final chance to grab an unrepeatable deal before we close the doors for the final time.’
In January, Manchester City Council’s planning committee voted against a recommendation for approval by planning officers to reject the 750-home Stocktons development. The scheme would consist of a 50-storey tower containing 552 homes and a 24-storey block with 200 homes.
