Retail non-food footfall slipped back in the past week as the high temperatures distracted and deterred shoppers.
Footfall was 19.9% lower than in 2019, in the week to 10 July: up from the 16.7% the previous week.
Retail parks was again the best performing sector, with footfall 17.3% lower than 2019 (-11.5%), followed by high streets which fell 20.4% (-18.9%) and shopping centres, which saw a 21.7% decline (-18.2%), according to Ipsos’ Retail Traffic Index.
Northern England was the best performer at -16.6% (-12%) with the Midlands the worst, with footfall 21.9% lower (-18.9%).
