Tapi ‘to take on just a fifth of Carpetright stores’

Just 54 Carpetright branches are expected to form part of the pre-pack administration of the flooring chain.

Tapi will take on those stores and staff, the Carpetright brand and IP and two warehouses when the deal is confirmed today, according to The Times.

The newspaper first reported on the chain being put up for sale by parent Nestware on 11 July. Nestware also owns Carpet & Flooring, The Floor Room and UK Flooring Direct.

The deal is expected to see the rest of Carpetright, including 198 branches and the Purfleet, Essex head office, go into administration, for which PwC was lined up last week.

Tapi’s interest in Carpetright branches was always limited as it has stores on many of the same retail parks, and restoring the chain’s brand to Harris family control was seen as a more important aspect.
