TFBC claims biodegradable first

Bedding brand The Fine Bedding Company has released what it says is the UK’s first duvet and pillow range with biodegradable fillings.

The launch by the Trendsetter subsidiary comes after three years of research and development.

The company has partnered with PrimaLoft Bio and Tencel, to create an ultra-breathable new duvet and pillow that returns to materials found in nature.

The PrimaLoft Bio filling is made from 100% GRS recycled polyester and is designed to rapidly biodegrade [93.7% biodegradation in 646 days under ASTM D5511 conditions (landfill environment) and 86.1% biodegradation in 1,563 days under ASTM D6691 conditions (marine/ocean environment). The stated rate and extent of degradation does not mean that the product will continue to degrade] under the right environmental conditions, such as those found on landfill sites and in wastewater systems – meaning it won’t degrade during use. The fibres break down to components such as water, CO2, methane, biomass and humus.

Made from plant-based fibres from renewable wood sources like Eucalyptus, the Tencel Lyocell cotton blend cover is manufactured in a closed loop process.

The introduction of Return To Nature is part of the company’s target of becoming fully circular by 2030.
