Upholstery industry veteran James dies

Stephen James, Ecomaster director of retail has died.

‘It is with immense sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Stephen, our director of retail. Without doubt, Steve was an integral member of my management team, valued and hugely respected within the industry, Steve was also my friend, and we go back a long way. With the greatest of respect, our heartfelt thoughts are with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was such an inspiration to us all,’ says Paul Gresty, Ecomaster md.

Before joining the furniture repair company, James was previously head of operations at Alpha Designs and technical director at Steinhoff UK. He was in charge of product development and sign off and managed the then group’s relationship with overseas manufacturers.

He had been responsible for Sofa Brands International’s relocation of upholstery production to Lithuania in 2005. Before that he spent more than a quarter of a century at Christie-Tyler, including introducing cut and sew production in Thailand and new factory set ups in the UK and Lithuania.
