60 years of Belfast furniture and flooring retailing ends

More than 60 years of furniture and flooring retailing has ended in Belfast with the closure of Rite Price.

The York Street retailer, founded in 1964 and owned by the Shankleton family, has appointed McAleer Jackson as liquidator as part of a creditors voluntary arrangement.

McAleer Jackson says that the retailer’s site, including the 72,000sqft showroom and warehouse which was built in 2001 to replace those destroyed in a 1998 arson attack, has been put up for sale.

Property agent Avison Young says it is looking for offers in the region of £1.75m.

McAleer Jackson says it will publish a statement of affairs in the next fortnight.

Rite Price’s abbreviated accounts for the year to 31 March 2025, show it owed £452,768 compared stock, stock, cash and money owed from debtors valued at £326,636.

‘The directors at Rite Price Flooring & Interiors Limited wish to thank their staff and customers for their support over many years. Unfortunately, due to difficult trading conditions the company has had to close. Any supplier or customer who has a query should contact McAleer Jackson,’ says the retailer’s website.
