Carpetright Belgium ceases trading

Carpetright’s Belgian operation has become the latest part of the group to collapse.

The chain had 16 branches across the country, but these – and its website – have closed after a bankruptcy hearing at Antwerp Business Court.

‘Unfortunately, the stores and the website are closed. More information will be shown on the site in the coming days to process current orders. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to respond to emails and telephone messages. We count on your understanding. Further information will follow as soon as possible,’ says the website.

‘Nowadays, there are stores that focus more on decoration and offer living concepts. And then the concept of Carpetright had become a bit too narrow,’ ACV Puls union representative Johan Van Loon told Flemish broadcaster VRT.

‘At ACV Puls, we had been asking the management questions about continuity for quite some time. Most stores were losing money, and we knew the situation was precarious. Despite repeated assurances from the management that the bankruptcy of Carpetright UK would not affect our company, it now appears that these claims were unfounded.’

The failure of the Belgian operation comes after Carpetright’s UK operation fell into administration and fellow Nestware owned brand The Floor Room, which operated Jogn Lewis’ flooring concessions, followed suit.
