Consumers left in discomfort after firm/soft mistakes

Consumers think they want a firm mattress, but more most of them regret the decision, according to new research.

A quarter of shoppers prefer a firm mattress, but 28% says they thought they would only to realise they need something softer.

And almost quarter – 23% – are sleeping on a mattress they are not totally happy with.

‘Sleep isn’t just a luxury, it’s a necessity for a healthy life – the right mattress is your partner in achieving that rejuvenating rest. It’s about finding the perfect balance of support and comfort to ensure you wake up every morning feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world,’ says Lisa Richards, eveSleep head of marketing, which commissioned the research among 2,000 people for the launch of its double-sided range wunderflip.

The research for the Bensons for Beds owned brand also found that of those who don’t like their current mattress, 43% said it causes them more discomfort than it does relief and sleeping on an unsuitable mattress is most likely to lead to pain in the lower back (56%); the neck (36%); the shoulders (27%) and legs (14%).

More than a quarter (26%) complained the quality of their mattress will ‘very much’ impact their mood on any given morning and 69% admit they have trouble falling asleep regularly.

‘You might not know what you want, until you’ve tested a few different mattresses, which can be tricky especially if you’re buying it online. That’s why we’ve created wunderflip to help make the right comfort choice when shopping online, giving the customer a choice of two different comfort ratings so there will be one that suits the individual when they receive the mattress at home,’ says Richards.
