Deflation continues but rate drops for furniture

Furniture retailers saw the eighth consecutive months of retail price deflation in August, but the rate more than halved.

Prices for household furniture were 1% lower, according to Office for National Statistics data, down from July’s 2.4%.

In August 2023 inflation stood at 4.2%.

Garden furniture prices continued to be substantially lower than a year ago, down by 13% compared with a drop of 18.1% in July.

Lighting saw prices drop by 2.3% after rising by 2.2% in July.
