Delivery and returns research sees clear leaders

Oliver Bonas and Dunelm are clear leaders in delivery and returns, according to a new survey.

Companies were judged on a combination of next delivery score; free delivery score; free delivery minimum spend score; standard delivery length, standard delivery cost; number of days to return; cost to return; subscription score; guest check-out score and Trustpilot score in Webretailer.com’s Retailer Returns Report.

Oliver Bonas topped the list with 72/100, followed by Dunelm on 70.6. Anthropologie was a distant third on 55.6.

Zara Home was fourth on 54.9, followed by Homebase, 53.9; H&M Home, 53.1; John Lewis, 51.1; Next, 47.4; The Range, 31 and Ikea 24.1. Argos and Amazon were not included.

‘Oliver Bonas came out as the top homeware brand for delivery and returns – scoring 72/100. Its cost of standard delivery was a very reasonable £3.95, allowing them to achieve full marks (10/10) in this section. Oliver Bonas’ standard delivery also takes 3-6 days (6.7/10), while next-day delivery costs only £5.95. When it comes to returning items, Oliver Bonas offers a respectable 30 days to make up your mind – allowing it to score 5.6/10. This, combined with the fact it is free to post returns, helped to secure Oliver Bonas’ spot at the top,’ says the report.

‘Dunelm was in second place, scoring 70.6/100. Its cost for next-day delivery is £5.95 – the same as Oliver Bonas. However, if you fancy a free delivery, you only have to spend £49.00 – a far cry from fifth-placed Homebase’s £100.00.

‘In third place was Anthropologie, which achieved 55.6/100. As the overall score for the brands in third and second place were significantly different, we were interested to find out why. In order to obtain free delivery, you would have to spend an eye-watering £75.00 – scoring the brand 4.4/10 in this section. As well as this, standard delivery takes quite a lengthy 3-5 days – a lot longer than Dunelm’s 1-3 days.

‘In last place was IKEA, which despite offering a whopping 365 days to return items (scoring 10/10 in this segment), scored 0/10 in six out of the ten categories used to test each brand for delivery and returns. This is in part due to the fact that it costs £25.00 to return items with IKEA.’
