THE PRESTIGIOUS RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2025 GOES TO UNILIN PANELS’ FIBRALUX BIOBASED MASTER OAK PANEL
Unilin Panels is delighted to announce that its melamine-faced Fibralux Biobased board has been awarded one of the most highly respected accolades in international design, winning a prestigious Red Dot Award in the Product Design 2025 category. This prize is a testament to the product’s excellence, both in terms of its design and its environmental footprint.
An internationally recognised design innovation
The melamine-faced Fibralux Biobased is a standout product in the world of decorative panels. Launched in 2023, with the melamine-faced version being released last year, this MDF panel is the first to combine a 100% recovered wood core with Evertree bio-based resin, made from locally produced sunflowers and rapeseed. This innovative new combination was designed to combine functionality, sustainability and aesthetic appeal with no compromise on any front.
Designed to meet the requirements of architects and interior designers alike, the melamine-faced Fibralux Biobased is prized for its dimensional stability, smooth ready-to-use surface and perfect compatibility with existing Master Oak decors. The panel combines technical sophistication and style, whilst reducing the CO₂ emissions involved in resin manufacture by 80%.
The other major advantage is that it contains no added formaldehyde and its emissions are comparable with those of natural wood – ten times lower than the E1 standard. This is a major innovation in promoting healthier domestic and workplace interiors.

Design and sustainability with no compromises
Thanks to its innovative production process, the CO₂ emissions for resin manufacture are reduced by 80% when compared with those for traditional adhesive manufacture. This panel contains no added formaldehyde and its emissions are equivalent to those of natural wood, i.e. 10 times lower than the E1 standard. This ensures indoor air quality and well-being for all domestic and work spaces.
What’s more, melamine-faced Fibralux Biobased is as stylish as it is functional: it integrates perfectly with the Master Oak collection, which now includes 12 exclusive designs – including 6 new and 6 original designs – all of which can be mixed and matched with this panel for a stylish, timeless aesthetic.
Thanks to Unilin Panels’ Timber Touch technology, Master Oak offers a depth and texture up to 20 times greater than the industry standard, and features a stunning natural matt finish. Its finish is so realistic that it is frequently mistaken for real solid oak or wood veneer. What’s more, it boasts astonishing technical properties: it is three times more scratch-resistant than natural oak, is UV-resistant so it doesn’t fade, and is easily cleaned.

Red Dot: the international standard
The Red Dot Design Awards are held each year by an international panel of design experts, appraising the most innovative and aesthetically pleasing products on the market. Winning this award puts the melamine-faced Fibralux Biobased up there with the market’s leading design products. The winning product will be celebrated at the Red Dot Gala, held on 8 July 2025 at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, and exhibited as part of the prestigious Red Dot Design Museum collection.
