John Lewis is to invest £50m revamping five branches, including more than £20m at its Glasgow store.
It will be joined by Cambridge, Leicester, Liverpool and Reading in the department store chain’s latest round of investment to make branches more experienced focussed.
The Glasgow transformation is the chain’s largest single-store investment in recent years and will see each floor of the 301,000sqft store upgraded across home, fashion, beauty and technology.
The phased project will last until next spring, with the store remaining open.
John Lewis says demand remained strong for the services only stores can offer, including tailored advice, personal styling and the opportunity to try products first-hand and that recent store refurbishments had delivered sales growth and improved customer satisfaction.
‘Whether customers shop with us online, in our shops or across both, they expect the same trusted advice, service and experience. We’re continuing to invest across our estate so our shops reflect the things customers value most about John Lewis, expert guidance, inspiring products and the confidence to make the right choice. These investments are about more than just a fresh look. They are about creating places where customers love to spend their time. The response from customers to the improvements we’ve already made gives us confidence to continue investing for the long term,’ says Peter Ruis, John Lewis md.
