Footfall slipped further last month, with shopping centres and high streets seeing the largest falls.
UK footfall fell by 0.8% in November, according to the British Retail Consortium -Sensormatic footfall monitor, compared with a 0.7% drop in October.
High streets saw 1.2% less visitors: double the rate of decline seen in October.
Shopping centres saw the worst performance, -1.3%, compared with -0.9% a month earlier.
Retail parks saw an improvement, with numbers down by 0.4% compared with a 0.5% fall in November.
‘Wet weather and the prospect of a tax-rising Budget meant some shoppers held off shopping visits last month. Storm Claudia prompted many consumers to search online for Black Friday deals throughout November, leading some to not visit bricks-and-mortar stores on Black Friday. There was good news in some northern England cities, as Manchester and Sheffield continued to buck the trend, recording positive footfall for the eighth consecutive month,’ says Helen Dickinson, BRC ceo.
