The impact of widespread retail closure last Monday to mark the Queen’s state funeral and the ongoing cost of living crisis has been revealed.
With many stores closed on 19 September, non-food retail footfall for the week to 25 September plunged by 28.1%. compared with 2019.
Cities saw footfall drop by 30.7%, compared with 24.6% in towns.
Shopping centres saw a 31.7% drop, followed by high streets with a 27% drop. Retail parks suffered a 25.8% drop.
Scotland and Northern Ireland saw a 31.45 fall, while Northern England performed the least badly with a 25.9% fall, according to Ipsos’s Retail Traffic Index.
