Furniture deflation reaches seventh consecutive month

Deflation continued in retail prices for furniture in July.

Prices were 2.4% lower than a year ago for household furniture: the seventh consecutive month that prices have fallen.

Prices began to drop in January, with an average fall of 2.2% per month, according to ONS data.

In January the inflation rate was 6%.

Garden furniture again saw another severe drop – the fourth in a row – of 18.1%.

Furnishings fabrics and curtains saw the third consecutive increase, rising from 3.6% to 4.3%.
