Furniture prices fall again

Furniture retailers were again unable to increase prices in September, as deflation continued.

Annual deflation for household furniture continued for the ninth consecutive month, according to ONS, although the rate slowed from 1% to 0.7%.

Deflation peaked at 2.9% in April.

In September 2023 inflation was 3.4%.

Prices for garden furniture saw another double-digit fall, with deflation of 12.7%, the lowest rate for six months. In September 2023 inflation was 5.1%.

Lighting saw deflation accelerate, with prices 3.9% lower than a year ago. Prices have fallen in six of the past 12 months.
