Furniture retail inflation makes return

Furniture retail inflation re-appeared in April: it had been absent since last August.

The rate of annual CPI for household furniture had been -0.6% in March, but deflation was ended with inflation of 1%.

Since August 2025, the sector has seen no inflation, according to ONS data, with four months of deflation and three months of neither inflation or deflation.

April’s figure is the highest since March 2025, when it was 1.3%.

Garden furniture continued its love affair with significant deflation, registering its ninth consecutive month, although the rate fell from 8.9% to 7.4%. Only two of the past 13 months have seen inflation: of 0.2% and 5.5%.
