The value of furniture and lighting retail sales reached record levels in September, while flooring enjoyed its third best month in decades.
Furniture and lighting sales in England, Wales and Scotland were £1652,827,000: an increase of 26.1% on August 2023 and 5.77% on September 2022.
It is the highest level seen in 453 months since comparable records began in January 1986.
The Office for National Statistics data shows that September 2023 was the third highest on record for flooring, with sales of £271,804,000.
March 2008 remains the record month, with sales worth £290,405,000.
September’s figure is an increase of 22.6% on August 2023 and 6.9% on September 2022.
The figures are subject to revision, not seasonally adjusted and do not allow for inflation.
