Inflation busting pay rise for John Lewis staff

John Leis staff will receive a significant pay rise in April, after missing out on profit-related bonuses for the past three years.

The employee-owned chain says the 6.9% increase will cost £108m.

From 1 April shop floor staff will see their hourly rate rise to £13.25 and £14.80 for those withing the M25.

Staff with enhanced skills and those in more specialist positions will be paid £14.31 an hour (£15.98).

In comparison the national minimum wage for those aged 21 and above will rise to £12.71 on 1 April.

‘Our partners are the heartbeat of our business. This investment is about putting more money into their pockets month-in, month-out. This pay growth demonstrates a sustained commitment to partner pay, consistent with previous years,’ says Helen Webb, John Lewis Partnership chief people officer.
