The appointment has been well received across the industry, as Tarry comes with excellent credentials for this heavyweight role, having spent over 30 years working for Tesco’s, starting out as a graduate trainee, and working his way up to the role of UK and Ireland CEO.
Reaction to his appointment has been swift and extremely favourable, with industry figures claiming Tarry is a “fabulous appointment” and that Tarry “certainly has the experience and knowhow to rejuvenate the John Lewis Partnership” and that he has a “great reputation”.
The John Lewis Partnership has always been seen as a bell weather for the retail economy, but over the last few years the lustre has dulled slightly from the brand, Tarry’s role will be to bring that shine back to the partnership after significant recent losses and having only just returned to profit.
