Lenleys Marks 90 Years with Third Generation Leadership

Independent furniture retailer Lenleys Home is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2026, marking nine decades of continuous trading and family ownership in the UK home furnishings sector.

Founded in 1936 by Leonard Watts and Stanley Adsett, the Canterbury-based business has grown into a well-established regional destination, known for its premium brand mix and design-led showroom experience.

The milestone comes as third-generation leaders Lavinia Watts and Oliver Greenfield, grandchildren of founder Leonard Watts, take the business forward, highlighting a successful transition at a time when succession remains a challenge for many independents.

With a background in fashion buying across both luxury and high street retail, Lavinia Watts is helping to shape a more contemporary, experience-led approach.

She said:

“Reaching 90 years is a huge achievement, but our focus is firmly on the future. Each generation has evolved the business to reflect how customers shop and live, and that mindset will carry Lenleys forward for the next 90 years.”

Together, Lavinia and Oliver are focused on balancing heritage with modern retail expectations, aligning with wider industry shifts toward showroom experience, curated product ranges and design-led service.

To mark the milestone, Lenleys is running a 90th anniversary campaign, including an in-store celebration event and a wider summer sale initiative.

At a time of continued pressure on physical retail, Lenleys 90 year history highlights the resilience of well-positioned independent businesses that can adapt while maintaining a clear identity.
