Liquidators blame shipping costs for Kettle failure

The failure of cabinet supplier Kettle Home has been blamed on the cost of shipping by its liquidators.

‘Unfortunately, the furniture sector has faced some extremely challenging times and with much of Kettle’s stock imported from Asia, the escalating costs of shipping were simply too high for Kettle Home to be able to continue trading. Other trading costs and the rise in economic costs has meant that the existing business model was not sustainable,’ says Thomas McKay, Begbies Traynor partner.

Kevin Mapstone and Yiannis Koumettou were named as joint-liquidators. They said Kettle Home had become ‘unsustainable’ in the face of the shipping costs.

The firm’s 80 part-time and full-time employees have been made redundant for reasons of insolvency.
