Milan Design Week: Zig-zagging with Zanotta

A year after its opening, Zanotta used its renovated flagship store on Via Durini to show off its latest creations and a new colour palette.

The store showcased a wide range of new products joining the Zanotta catalogue: from Vincent Van Duysen’s emphasis on comfort to Pierre Charpin’s graphic and artistic explorations, alongside innovative seating solutions and the brand’s historical legacy, brought to life through iconic re-editions.

Building on 2024’s collaboration with Muller Van Severen, the Z24 Books is a new freestanding bookcase available in two heights. Designed for versatility, it can be placed against a wall or positioned at the centre of a room as a divider. The bookcase’s glossy lacquered metal sides feature the iconic zig-zag pattern, creating a strong visual and sculptural impact. The Z24 collection has more new elements, including three chests of drawers, where the zig-zag motif is reinterpreted horizontally.

The revamped flagship store layout features the Riga-Riga sculptural table and sideboard, the result of a collaboration with French designer and artist Pierre Charpin. Both pieces showcase a handcrafted glass inlay pattern, where the materials are designed to translate shapes and colours. The contrast between ash wood and the polished coloured glass elements creates rhythm and three-dimensionality, positioning the Riga-Riga collection within an artistic realm.

Vincent Van Duysen’s modular Fedrigo sofa system sees the backrest naturally merge with the armrests, creating a cozy embrace, while the cushions enhance ergonomic support. Generous proportions further emphasise the perception of softness. Sustainability is at the core of Fedrigo’s design, featuring a structure made of plywood and expanded polyurethane with recycled polyols Circularrefoam. The recycled PET upholstery is secured with Velcro, eliminating adhesives and enabling complete disassembly for efficient recycling at the end of its life cycle.

A longstanding bestseller in the Zanotta collection, the William sofa by Damian Williamson is reimagined this year with an updated version: William+, the designer’s final work before his death.
