Non-food retail footfall falls back

Non-food retail footfall lost the gains of the previous week in the past week.

After seeing a recovery to footfall just 5.4% lower than in 2019, the number of shoppers fell dramatically.

In the week to 11 September footfall was 14.6% lower, according to Ipsos’ Retail Traffic Index.

Shopping centres saw a 16.4% drop (-9% the previous week), high streets saw a 14.6% decline (-6.5%) and retail parks were 10.8% lower (-0.2%).

Scotland and Northern Ireland saw the poorest regional performance, 18.5% lower than 2019, while South West England and Wales was the best performing with a 8.8% drop.
