YFM gets rebrand as it reflects changing profile

The Young Furniture Makers exhibition has been renamed as the New Furniture Makers exhibition for October’s event, as organisers look to boost its mission to embrace a broader and more inclusive community of designers.

While the exhibition has a history of championing emerging talent, this has traditionally been focused on younger designers: the refreshed name reflects the diversity of today’s participants, from students and recent graduates to individuals embarking on second careers in furniture design.

Organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company, this year’s event will take place on 29 October at Furniture Makers’ Hall and the Dutch Church at Austin Friars, London.

‘The New Furniture Makers exhibition provides an invaluable platform for aspiring furniture designers to showcase their work to leading industry professionals, employers, and fellow creatives. Exhibitors benefit from enhanced visibility, constructive feedback, and the opportunity to build lasting connections within the sector,’ says Jonny Westbrooke, The Furniture Makers’ Company, ceo.

A highlight of the event is the presentation of a series of awards recognising excellence in various disciplines. These include the Bespoke Award, Design Award, Textiles Award, and Apprentice Award, celebrating innovation, craftsmanship, and creative integration of materials across furniture making.

‘We believe the name change more accurately reflects the ambition of the event: to serve not only as a launchpad for young people entering the industry, but also for those who have made a career change and are pursuing their passion for furniture design.’
