Deflation slows for furniture but reaches six month mark

Household furniture retail prices again dropped in June, although the rate of deflation again slowed.

Prices fell by 2% in the month, according to ONS data, down from the 2.7% and 2.9% drops respectively seen in April and May.

The fall was the sixth consecutive fall.

Prices for garden furniture again reflected June’s weather and retailers’ desire to offloaf stock, with prices 19.5% lower.

Prices for lighting edged up by 0.9% while furnishing fabrics and curtains saw a pick in prices, with the inflation rate rising from 2.9% to 3.6%.
