Shoppers want luxe herringbone floors: research

Herringbonefloor7262

Herringbone and luxe and boutique hotel are the two fastest growing online search terms for smooth flooring, according to new research.

Other styles maintained their consumer interest, albeit with limited growth.

Herringbone is the UK’s most-searched smooth flooring trend, with 202,380 monthly searches: a rise of 5.8% over the past year.

Natural and warm oak is the second most searched term, with 109,370 monthly searches, up 0.4%.

Parquet flooring scored the same increase, with 59,790 monthly searches.

Luxe and boutique hotel enjoyed a 6.4% rise, with 48,420 monthly searches.

The rest of the top 10 search terms were: grey: 34,620 monthly searches, up 0.7%; natural and biophilic flooring: 24,330, 0.3%; white: 20,900, 0.9%; concrete: 20,760, 0.3%; plank: 18,580, 2.5% and dark wood: 8,330, 0.4%, according to retailer Floor Giants, which complied the figures.

‘The data from our trends report shows that homeowners are becoming much more design-led when choosing flooring. Herringbone remains the standout trend because it adds character and movement to almost any room, but the rise of the luxe and boutique hotel look is especially interesting,’ says Owen Chenery, Floor Giants director of retail.

‘Homeowners want floors that feel premium, warm, and considered, without necessarily paying solid-wood or natural-stone prices. Advances in LVT, laminate and engineered finishes mean it is now much easier to achieve a high-end look at home. We’re also seeing a clear move towards warmer, more natural tones, with oak, parquet and biophilic finishes all performing strongly, while grey flooring is still popular but no longer driving the same level of momentum it once did.’

The report is based on UK search volume data by Ahrefs. Search volumes reflect 12-month monthly averages at the time the data was compiled. Year-on-year growth figures compare search demand with that in the previous 12-month period. Keywords were grouped into relevant trend categories based on flooring style, colour, finish or aesthetic. Where a keyword could reasonably sit across more than one category, such as herringbone oak flooring, it was included in each relevant category. As a result, category totals should be read independently and cannot be combined to calculate an overall total.
